Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) or cumulative trauma disorders are disorders that affect the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, cartilages, joints, and spinal discs. These are caused due to repetitive movements, excessive application of force, and incorrect posture and hence are the most common occupational hazard among the dental professionals. This review article is an overview of various articles and studies conducted that analyze the prevalence, risk factors, signs and symptoms of MSDs, and also describe ergonomic methods, procedures, and practices to prevent and palliate the symptoms of MSDs.
